Trading a Canon EOS 20D (in excellent used condition) for a Canon EOS 50D?

Friday Jun 18, 2010

I’m looking for a good deal trading a UEC Canon 20D for a Canon 50D. It’s perfectly acceptable to me if the 50D is factory refurbished. I don’t want to pay any more than $200. Can anyone direct me to a website or other service?

PS – I know that Canon has a customer loyalty program, but the camera you are exchanging must be broken, and they don’t publish what you get for what.

You may want to reconsider your position.

You have an excellent, nearly six year old camera that is worth about $350 to $400 and want to trade it plus $200 for a recent camera that is valued at $730 used. That means that you will have to come up with around another $200 IF you can sell the 20D for $350 to $400

Canon EOS 50D New – $1100
Canon EOS 50D Gray market – $850

I could not find a 50D that has been refurbished.

Have you called Canon and asked them for ideas? 800.OK-CANON. There may be some other options if you are a member of the Canon Professional Services program

How do I set the self-timer on a Canon EOS 50D?

Sunday May 30, 2010

I can’t figure it out =/

Hit the "AF•DRIVE" button and use the thumb wheel on the back to cycle through shooting modes. Since you have evidently lost your owner’s manual, here is PDF version: http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/1/0300001591/01/eos50d-h-en.pdf

whats the best camera canon eos 500d or canon eos 50d. for taking night time photos.?

Wednesday May 19, 2010

as i want take Photography up as hobbie.

Actually either camera can shoot night time photos, it is up to the user to pick the correct settings for the subject and effect they want.

The 50D is a cut above the smaller 500D, entry level Canon camera.

The 50D uses CF cards like all the professional DSLR’s, has a faster top shutter speed and has a real pentaprism instead of a Pentamirror. Other wise they will perform the same under the conditions you wish to shoot

Setting up Canon EOS 50D screen?

Monday Apr 26, 2010

just bough the Canon EOS 50D and don’t know how to setup the screen because the manual is in French and German only.

You can download the manual as a pdf from the support pages at www.canon.com, they have it in english. I won’t tell them you bought a grey import if you don’t.

Is it the Canon EOS 550D worth it??? Or the 50D??? Canon camera users please help!?

Monday Apr 19, 2010

I have a Canon EOS 50D and I heard recently that the EOS 550D is coming out. It looks very impressive. Although the 50D I share it with my dad I always wanted a personal DSLR camera. Is the 550D worth it? or SHould I buy a 500D or a Nikon or should I keep sharing with my dad?

I think both the 500D and 550D are excellent cameras. Below is a link you should check out. It lists the features and specs of the 500D and 550D side by side.

Look and see if the just announced 550D has any features that you consider worth having. The 2nd link below is a web page and it has a chart listing that highlights the differences between the two cameras.

One thing I noticed with a quick glance is that the newer 550D has really boosted the video ability and if you are into doing video also I really like that it has the connection for an External stereo mike.

Hope this helps.

should i go for a canon eos 50d or 7d? (coming out later this year)?

Monday Apr 5, 2010

should i pick a canon eos 50d or a 7d? both look really nice and im really into professional photography and i want to know which is best suited for me. im frustrated because i want the 50d because its cheaper but im scared that the 7d might have the more advanced options i need later on. HELP PLEASE! thanks :)

As Fhotoace indicated, it really depends on what you have now, your experience level and what you need in a camera. If you are new to DSLRs, the 50D is a better choice because it is cheaper and frees up more of your budget for lenses. FWIW, I currently shoot a Canon 40D (the predecessor of the 50D). Though the 7D is very tempting for me as an amatuer sports shooter, there’s very little the 7D can do that I can’t already do with my 40D.

Instead of dropping $1800 on the hotest new camera body, I’m investing in an EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens and a 1.4x extender. Yes, the lens is a much more expensive investment. Still, I’ll get a lot more use out of a new lens than I will get from a new camera. So I’m likely to hold off on the 7D for a while longer. I may even wait until Canon updates the 5D or introduces a full-frame camera with the speed and features of the 7D to compete with Nikon’s D700.

My take is you should spring for the 7D only if you already own a 20/30/40D camera, use L-series glass and want/need to upgrade. Another reason might be that you are coming from a Nikon D300 and have decided to go with the Canon equivalent. It is worth noting that the environmental seals offered by the 7D are useless if you don’t already shoot L-series glass or plan to invest in such lenses. Also, the 7D lacks all the automatic and semi-auto modes found on the 50D. If you are used to a point-n-shoot or bridge camera, the 50D or even the Rebel T1i is a much better choice.

How do I get a sharp picture with my Canon EOS 50D?

Monday Mar 29, 2010

Every time I take a pic with the full auto option, my picture becomes slightly unsharp. I do not want to adjust the shutter speed for every single picture. How do I get a very sharp picture every time I take a picture? (and yes….I do keep my hand still :-) )

Thanks

One question: why did you get a dSLR if you intend on using it in full-automatic mode ?

You really do need to learn to select focus points and shutter speed. Selecting one shutter speed for all instances does NOT work. For example 1/90 might be OK for portraits, but it will not work if you are shooting sports. Then you will need at least 1/250th, but 1/1000th is better. Next, you will need to understand ISO and how to set it according to the environment in which you are shooting while also considering how this will impact the noise and grain of your pictures. What you really need is to understand the concept of "exposure" as a balance between ISO, shutter speed and aperture.

You want better pics ? instead of asking for a one-size-fits-all advice on Y!A, register for a photo course. If you don’t want to do this, then at least attend a one-day workshop at your local photo store, many offer them for free.

What Macro lens is best for the Canon EOS 50D?

Monday Mar 22, 2010

I have had my first DSLR camera for about a year now, tinkered around and have decided I would really love to try out a Macro lens. I am really green when it comes to buying a lens, in fact, this will be my first upgrade. I don’t want to break the bank, but don’t want to skimp and lose sharp image quality either.

I would love to use this lens for nature shots as well as dramatic portraits.

Any pointers, suggestions welcome. Thank you!

Cameta has this macro lens on sale for 200 bucks off. This macro lens has some really good potential but remember the lens can only do so much, its up to you to create those dramatic shots.

Canon eos 50d, what do you all think about the kit ?

Monday Mar 15, 2010

Canon eos 50d, what do you all think about the kit that comes with the 18 – 200 mm image stabilization lens ? Is that a good lens ? I hear that alot of kit lenses aren’t good at all. The sales person was telling me that it is a very good lens, i just don’t know if he was talking bullsh*t. I would really like to hear from YOU ALL. Thanks, have a great day.

Here is the review of the lens: http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/canon_18-200_3p5-5p6_is_c16/

Zoom lenses are made with compromises at the extreme ends of the zoom range. The bigger the zoom range, the more (usually) image quality a lens has to sacrifice at both the wide and telephoto end. This especially applies to big superzoom lenses such as the 18-200mm. However, image quality may not be discernable to the average consumers, any decrease in image quality is only seen in very large prints.

Of course the sales person will tell you to buy the kit. That’s his job. Your job is to be well informed when buying.
