Canon eos 50d, what do you all think about the kit ?
Posted by admin | Under Canon EOS 50D Monday Mar 15, 2010Canon eos 50d, what do you all think about the kit that comes with the 18 – 200 mm image stabilization lens ? Is that a good lens ? I hear that alot of kit lenses aren’t good at all. The sales person was telling me that it is a very good lens, i just don’t know if he was talking bullsh*t. I would really like to hear from YOU ALL. Thanks, have a great day.

Zoom lenses are made with compromises at the extreme ends of the zoom range. The bigger the zoom range, the more (usually) image quality a lens has to sacrifice at both the wide and telephoto end. This especially applies to big superzoom lenses such as the 18-200mm. However, image quality may not be discernable to the average consumers, any decrease in image quality is only seen in very large prints.
Of course the sales person will tell you to buy the kit. That’s his job. Your job is to be well informed when buying.
18-200 is a great all around lens. Here are reviews about this lens

If you are new to photography, I suggested not getting a zoom and get a prime lens. Learn how to take photos first (and zoom with your feet). You can’t get the same sharpness with a zoom lens. For the 50D, a 30mm lens would be a good choice – "Normal" lens
