canon eos 50d lens question?

Monday Mar 16, 2009

Is the lens pretty good on this camera? For the money?

Are you talking the “stock” 18-55 mm or newest 18-200 mm?

For the money any Canon lens it excellent … and they will last for decades.

The camera doesnt just come with one lens, thats the beauty of an SLR, interchangeable lenses.

for the little extra cash over the body alone, the 50d kit with the 17-85 lens is a great deal.

Any lenses you buy beyond the kit lens are better to have a Canon EF mount rather than an EF-S mount just to keep your options open for the future.

if you can afford it,
get just the 50d body only and
get the Canon 17-55 2.8. The problem is that the lense is around $1k
another alternative would be the Tamron 17-50 2.8.
The Tamron is a good lens, but many say that the image quality is not as good as the Canon 17-55, but for about $400-$500, it’s a good lens.
