So... in low light/ ...
So... in low light/indoor situations you need to use a higher ISO/ASA number, this means that the silver-halide crystals used in the film need to be larger. This is in order to better pick up the usable light, resulting in a photo with more grain/noise, but gives you the ability to use a faster shutter speed and still get a clear and well lit photo. With digital what people are looking for is the ability to use a high ISO number, say 1600 or 3200, but still maintain low noise and image quality.

ISO or ASA(more of ...
ISO or ASA(more of a film term rather than digital) basically means the sensitivity of the film/sensitivity of the sensors(digital). I'll explain it in film terms, which are easier to explain/understand. What reflects the light in film are silver-halide crystals. A lower ISO/ASA number means smaller crystals producing a very low grain photo, the thing is that you need more light/more intense light to get the picture, so outdoors in daytime works best. I'll explain the other half in a new comment

The ISO is the ...
The ISO is the sensitivity of the sensor. 200 ISO has twice the sensitivity of 100 ISO and so on. You can stop down the lens or use shorter shutter times with higher ISO, but you may encounter more noise in your picture.

In the tests I've ...
In the tests I've seen, the 50D's high ISO quality is the same as the 40D's. The only difference is the 50D has a higher ISO level. I noticed that everyone seems to hoot and hollar about the 50D's LCD screen. I checked it out and couldn't see it being that much better than the 40D's. As for auto focus during LIve View...it couldn't. I tried and tried and it couldn't focus.
